This is so stupid

Why content creators are still creating basic DevOps content that are redundant and completely irrelevant?

This is so stupid
Page content

I feel today’s content is so stupid. I’m not going to talk about how stupid it is, I’m just going to talk about why it is stupid. Why do content creators still create content that is completely irrelevant, redundant, basic and useless?

Go to linkedin or medium articles, and you can find a recent article on Docker basics with a lot of views. The article only talks basics that can be found in the documentation page. In my opinion, that piece of information is useless because such articles are already created in the past. Why would I create another article on the basics of docker? Is there something new that the article is talking about? Most of the time the answer is No.

Impact of AI

AI is going to change the way content creators create content. Creating simple how-to guides is going to be a waste of time. Using AI, learner can generate content that is relevant, useful and personalised. For example, if I want to read a manual about how to install a software, I can ask AI to generate a simple guide for me. Why would I go the documentation page and look for the information that I can ask AI and get it for me?

For a DevOps person, I personally feel that he should learn by doing it and by going through lengthy tutorials.

Outdated Basic Content

My opinion is that content creators should not create content that is outdated. Or at least they should talk about versioning. Even some “basic” content might be based on older tool versions or practices that are no longer entirely relevant in modern DevOps environments. Also, the market seems to be flooded with the same basic information. This makes things difficult for the learner. Even the meaning of the DevOps is changing. It started as something and you can see how it evolved over the years.

Everyone wants to cater new generation

I think that everyone wants to cater the people who are still learning and who are still in their early stages of learning. There are a lot of people entering the job market than people who are already in the job market. Even if you are a seasoned professional, you might still be learning new things and you might still be learning new tools. In my personal experience, i have taken a lot of DevOps interviews and I have seen a lot of people who skips the basics of computers and are working in the job market. This is not a good thing. A person who does not understand DNS, is working on AWS Route53 for 2 years. This was very shocking for me to know this.

I feel that the new generation is more focused on learning tools and not on learning the basics. Not a single content creator even talks about learning DNS, networking, basics of engineering etc. This looks like a market where content creators are only interested in selling tools or course to the learners. It’s easier to sell to a new person than a seasoned one.

No one understands advanced DevOps

Have you ever heard any content creator talking about implementing “Disaster Recovery” or “Blue/Green Deployment” or “Canary Deployment”? DevOps ia all about automating everything. It includes from basics of build, test, and deployment to advanced topics like Infrastructure as Code, Security as a Code, compliance, configuration management, self-healing mechanisms, etc. Talking about the advanced topics with implementation is very complicated and less rewarding for the content creators.
